Manila can be chaotic and spiritual, dirty and divine, gritty and gorgeous all at once. If you don’t find beauty and poetry here, you will never find it anywhere..”

Our tour with Jian was really fun. He was very accommodating, as we were late due to traffic. He took us to lots of places we would have never gone... read more ourselves. Jian was an excellent tour guide - super friendly, very engaging, and knowledgeable about Filipino history from the pre-colonial through WWII and up to now. On our tour it was... read more a group of 8. It was very well paced, with breaks at just the right times, and substantive, covering all the major monuments and spaces. Jian had a great way of adapting his talk to the interests and backgrounds of those in the group, which ranged from university professors to retirees, and connecting Filipino history to wider global issues. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, and fuel up before - we started at 1:30 and ended around 5:30!
February 22, 2020With only 1 full day in Manila, it was supposed to be a footnote to my trip to the Philippines. As a bit of a ‘foodie’ I took the... read more opportunity to book Jian’s street food experience tour. Not only was the food fantastic Jian added insights and little extras to exceed even my highest expectations. Love his rule that you must take a bite of everything before you can say you don’t like it. That is a great motto for life.
His passion was infectious. The whole group bonded even though we were from all over the planet. I even shared a taxi back with two others after the tasting and we shared contact information. That is how close our group got during our time with Jian.
One item if told before eating it would sound disgusting but was one of my favorites, you will have to try the experience to come up with your own list of “that sounds disgusting but is delicious. There was only 1 item I struggled to eat and not because it was strange part of an animal, it was the onions. I really don’t like onions and I hate to put this in writing because it opens up an “I told you so” from my family, but I did like that dish in spite of the onions.
I booked because of the positive reviews on-line and they were all correct. This is a trip for the adventurous and not so adventurous.
